♦ The name Amphitheatrum Flavium comes from Flavius, which was the family name of both Titus and Vespasian.

♦ The Colosseum was used for gladiatorial spectacles and other shows. Its capacity was nearly 50,000 seats.

♦ In 443 AD, there was an earthquake that also caused a great damage. However, the Colosseum was repaired again.

♦ During the middle ages, the Colosseum went through some changes. By the end of the sixth century, this place was used as a small cemetery and had a church inside its structure.

♦ During the 12th century, the Colosseum was being used as a castle.

♦ There was another major earthquake in 1349, when the Colosseum was damaged again.

♦ Today, this is one of the world known attractions. People from all over the world come to see this wonder. Many famous musicians have used Colosseum for their concerts.
