Although we are aware that it is rather impossible to pick only ten songs, we will give some suggestions, so you will be able to make your own list. When it comes to songs that have definitely marked the entire rock culture, there are several of them: “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Queen), “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” (Pink Floyd), “Light My Fire” (The Doors), “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” (The Rolling Stones), “Like a Rolling Stone” (Bob Dylan), “Stairway to Heaven” (Led Zeppelin), “A Piece of My Heart” (Janis Joplin), “Little Wing” (Jimi Hendrix), “Sultans of Swing” (Dire Straits) and “Under the Bridge” (performed by Red Hot Chili Peppers).
Those were just ten songs we had in mind. But the list could go on: David Bowie’s “The Man Who Soled the World” (also played by Nirvana); “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana), “Break on Through” (The Doors), “Yesterday” (The Beatles), “Road to Nowhere” (Talking Heads), “L.A. Woman” (The Doors), “Sympathy For the Devil” (The Rolling Stones), “The Passenger” and “Lust for Life” (both by Iggy Pop); “Message in the Bottle” (The Police), “Don’t Think Twice (It’s All Right)” (Bob Dylan) and many more of them.
There are also many artists who are regarded as the “younger generation” of rock. We simply have to mention them: The White Stripes, Oasis (British pop-rock), Franz Ferdinand (an interesting genre-mixture), The Strokes and others.
