Here is the list of seven continents of the world. When we were kids, our teachers used to say that we must know the list of these continents anytime. There are very few people who don’t know that our planet has seven continents. Let us say more about each of them.
Seven Continents of the World
What is a continent? A continent can be defined as a large land mass. It is surrounded by oceans. The edges of any continent are marked by long coastlines. It is believed that the seven continents we have on Earth were formed due to the earth’s crust tectonic movements. In the beginning, the land mass was not divided in the same way as it is today.
The land mass was divided gradually, forming seven continents.
♦ Asia is the largest of all continents. It is situated in the eastern and the northern hemisphere and it occupies a lot of space! Asia is a great continent with various cultures and numerous countries with different traditions. The most important Asian countries are India, Japan, China, Oman, etc. Some of the oldest world’s civilizations were born right here, in Asia. Those were the Chinese and the Indian civilization. Asia has nearly all climate types – there are mountains covered in snow and hot deserts as well.
♦ Africa is another large continent. It is a bit smaller than Asia, but it is equally old and very interesting. Africa has 54 countries. The most important ones are Egypt, South Africa, Ethiopia, etc. Africa has very dry and hot climate conditions, but there are also areas covered in grass and vegetation. This exotic continent keeps attracting the tourists from all over the world.

♦ Europe is one of the “old continents”. This continent is smaller than Asia and Africa, but it is equally important. The history of Europe is truly amazing. The most important countries in Europe are United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, etc. There are many different cultures and nations in Europe. The smallest country in the world is in Europe – it is Vatican City-State.
