Biggest Woman in the World

The biggest woman in the world title should be explained before we reveal who she is. When we say “the biggest” we mean “the tallest”, not “the heaviest”. The biggest woman in the world until 2008 was Sandy Allen. She died in 2008. Allen was about 233 cm tall.

Sandy Allen died in Indianapolis, at a nursing home. She spent the last few months of her life in hospital where she has been treated for diabetes, blood problems and kidney problems, and breathing issues.

Sandy was incredibly tall by her tenth year. By the time she fully grew up, she was two meters and thirty-three centimeters tall! The world would never know about her if she hadn’t written to the Guinness Book of Records hoping to get some help in meeting someone of her own size. She was actually very lonely. She once stated that her social life is next to nothing, so she was hoping to meet some friends who would understand her problems and wishes. She entered the Guinness records and held the title of the world’s tallest woman and during that time she was not that lonely anymore. But after a while she felt a strong need to come back to her home Indianapolis. She focused on showing children that the differences among people are not bad or unnatural and that they should accept people for what they are, regardless to their height or anything else.

After Sandy’s death, the Guinness World Records have started to search for a new tallest woman. Some of the candidates are: Yao Defen (233 centimeters tall), Malgorzata Dydek (about 219 centimeters tall), Zainab Bibi (nearly 219 centimeters tall). Official ranking has yet to be made. At this moment, we only know possible candidates and their heights, but no one is holding the title yet.

Please check out my book about Sandy Allen, who was my friend for 31 years. It’s “World’s Tallest Woman: The Giantess of Shelbyville High” (Hawthorne Publishing)
